Come and enjoy a relaxing day out in Tai Tapu, nestled at the foot of the Port Hills in the garden city of Christchurch.

Celebrating six treasured local gardens with a story. From historic to modern, native to exotic, full of colour, texture

and diversity.

The gardens will be offered as a self-tour package, with the option to choose the ‘Otahuna Garden Tour Package’. Please be aware that there are limited tickets for this (not to be missed) guided tour of the prestigious historic homestead gardens designed for Tai Tapu’s own, Sir Heaton Rhodes' Estate.

We also have some tempting add-ons for those curious about local history, art and architecture. If you are lovers of art, fashion, food, flower demonstrations and plants, you will

not be disappointed!

This is event is a biennial fundraiser for Tai Tapu Primary School with all profits going directly into teaching resources and support services to the school.

This event will be on rain or shine!

GARDEN INFORMATION - SCROLL DOWN

Garden one:

Lovingly developed over the past twenty four years, with a serious plant collection including some rare species, it is a beautifully detailed established garden with glorious borders packed with wonderful perennials. Come to visit this garden in all its glory in spring. 11am and 3.30 pm Margaret, the garden owner, will give a demonstration of how she has placed colour in the garden

and the placement and use of trees. Children under 3yrs are not allowed in the garden grounds due safety with deep ponds and water features.

Garden Two:

Established five acres of garden rooms, diversely planted with woodland, natives, exotics and edibles.

The architecturally designed home that was constructed with locally milled wood, will be open for viewing. A perfect garden to stroll through on a Sunday.

Garden Three:

The estate includes more than twenty planted acres of historic, decorative and productive gardens. A tour of these grounds – now in their 12th year of renovation - provides a glimpse into how garden design has changed over the last century, as well as what was necessary in the Victorian era and what is necessary today, to maintain a garden on such a scale.

Garden Four:

Established hillside formal gardens and pond plantings nestled into the foothills of Tai Tapu. An evolving garden that is jammed packed with diversity. We are excited to see new gardens landscaped this year which include an exceptional children’s playground.

Garden Five:

An evolving sculpture garden and native regeneration project. Our mission is to support contemporary sculpture practice in New Zealand and to enhance native biodiversity in Canterbury. Only open once a year, this a wonderful opportunity to visit the permanent collection of sculptures. Make sure you don't miss our special floral art exhibition showing at this garden with Emma Bass and Holly Zandbergen.

Come and celebrate spring at the Tai Tapu Sculpture Garden with an exhibition of Flora by award winning New Zealand Artists, Photographer Emma Bass and Painter Holly Zandbergen.

Garden Six:

Built in 2013 this is a unique example of autonomous house design using existing and emerging technology to operate off the grid. The surrounding garden features exotic and native landscaping to support the local indigenous ecosystems of the Port Hills. The property is set majestically on top of a knoll in Tai Tapu offering commanding views to the surrounding countryside and the Southern Alps.
